what will the museum of the future be like?

Pattie Maes at TED - what can museums - libraries - galleries contribute to this vision

TED has posted a whole bunch of videos from their February, 2009 conference .

Pattie Maes
I like this one from Pattie Maes' lab at MIT. She talks about, and demonstrates a wearable device with a projector that paves the way for what they call a " profound interaction with our environment. Imagine "Minority Report" and then some."

I think it is a very useful framework to be thinking about where we are going with digital.

Better still, when I watched this I couldn't help but ask myself - how would a museum or a big heritage library, or art gallery contribute to the world she imagines ?

What kind of resources , collections, experience and competencies could they contribute to the world being imagined here?

And is there enough thinking going on to address these questions?

If so, where? And does it matter ?.

Watch it and leave a comment for discussion - or do that here ?

Definitely one for Friday - which it is in Auckland!

Answering my own question?
The Te Papa Our Space project might be worth bringing into this discussion.

Hi Paul
Thanks for this great post. I'll be viewing and reading this weekend and will post at your's then. In the meantime, I agree that The Wall needs to be contextualised as it is an important and I think quite under-estimated example of the future convergence of user-generated and institutional collections online and onsite!
