Museums cutting back

As the economy is dashed upon the rocks, museums around the world are being forced to cut spending. Among the losses, Freep.com reports that the Detroit Institute of Arts has canceled it's blockbuster exhibit, "Baroque 1620-1800: Style in the Age of Magnificence," scheduled to arrive this fall. Layoffs are also being considered.

Google Earth zooms into masterpieces at The Prado, Spain

The Sydney Morning Herald published an article today about Google's experiment with The Prado, in Madrid, using the Google Earth application to zoom into 14 of the museum's old master paintings to an amazing degree. Science dissections - a growing museum trend?

It seems like New Zealand museums are setting a new trend for staging scientific dissections of big interesting animals and getting the public involved in them online. It's a great way to engage visitors with the scientific activities of natural history museums - it takes the behind-the-scenes stuff out into the public arena. Nathalie Crinière Wins Louvre Abu Dhabi Design Competition

Agence France-Museums, in partnership with Abu Dhabi's Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC), today announced that the firm of Nathalie Crinière has been selected to create the exhibition design for the Louvre Abu Dhabi, one of the five major institutions being planned for Abu Dhabi's Saadiyat Island Cultural District.
