Paul Reynolds replied to Tim Hart's discussion Museum Victoria - Collections Online launched - we would appreciate comments - good and bad!
"Congratulations - looks great - and obviously reflects a mile of thinking and woirk. One big point for me is the question of sharing and personlisation - i.e. why can't I send an item out onto a Fecebook group - Twitter it - or even better take…"

GLAM wiki day one

GLAM Wiki Day One

It is day one of the GLAM Wikimedia event here at the Australia War Memorial Museum. There are at least 150 people in the room - mostly from the Australian collection sector. A few people from NZ, including DNZ and Museums Aotearoa. And me, wearing the Adjunct Director, National Library, NZ, hat.

The Wikimedia community

I think one of the biggest takeouts is the incredible professionalism of the Wikimedia spokespeople here. This includes a… Continue

National Portrait Gallery - Wikimedia Commons - Bleak House 2.0

National Portrait Gallery London

The National Portrait Gallery in London, NPG, is currently in legal dispute with the Wikimedia Commons and a user who scraped 3000 images from the NPG web site and put them up on Wikimedia Commons, here. The claim is that as the works are all 19th century or earlier they are all in the public domain, and so available for fair use.

Māori Legal Archive

Māori Legal Archive : Reasons to be cheerful

There are a whole bunch of reasons to celebrate the launch of the Legal Māori Archive. First, it offers Māori speaking legal scholars access to some hitherto hard to find legal sources. Second, it illustrates some real collaboration between the parties involved. Third. it adds to the weft of what I like to think of as the 'real web - i.e first class learning and cultural sources with open access to all. Lastly, and definitely for me, , it… Continue

Pattie Maes at TED - what can museums - libraries - galleries contribute to this vision

TED has posted a whole bunch of videos from their February, 2009 conference .

Pattie Maes

I like this one from Pattie Maes' lab at MIT. She talks about, and demonstrates a wearable device with a projector that paves the way for what they call a " profound interaction with our environment. Imagine "Minority Report" and then some."

I think it is a very useful framework to be thinking about where we are going with… Continue

Hi Paul and welcome to our site! I enjoyed Michael Wesch's presentation on McGovern Online. Would you mind if we add an RSS feed your blog to the blogs on this site? I've been invited to sit on a panel at the National Digital Forum so look forward to the discussions there. Will you be attending?

Hey Paul -- I thought that you might want to know that http://www.mcgovern.co.nz/ is returning a programming error -- also the other link confusingly goes to http://mcgovernonline.blogspot.com/ rather than peoplepoints. Great blog tho'! I will enjoy being a bit more informed about the things I'm missing by not living in NZ... cheers Shiralee

I'll be speaking at the Rotorua conference on 25th and will be about on 26th. Do these dates coincide?
Cheers

It's working fine at my end now too -- perhaps just one of those random server things...??? And I'm sorry, I did copy the error message when I sent you the first message to paste to you, but then thought I was being just too anal... just goes to show that one should usually go with one's first impulse

Nice looking site -- I'm going to enjoy a bit of an explore...

Thanks for the url Paul. I'm currently working up a submission with the University of Edinburgh which looks surprisingly like this call for tenders. I think I may be able to roll the proposal into this submission. I'm speaking with TePapa curators next week about the 'Scots in NZ' exhibition. I'm guessing that this might have some resonance with you!
Cheers
