Well I hope this is just the begining and we can use this group to share ideas and stories about dealing with museum loans and outreach programs.

I'm looking forward to hearing about your experiences.
Cheers
Karen

I'm taking things slow so far in 2009, but I am working on getting people from across Australian and oversea to link into this group so we can get a broader perspective on what people are working on.

Hi All, I am the coordinator of the Memorial Boxes from the Australian War Memorial plus we have created our own Explorer Boxes to support curriculum in local primary schools. These are all heavily utilised with few issues about returns and breakages - suddenly I'm feeling very lucky! Always looking for ideas for outreach services.

Hi All,
I am currently working on a new project, the 'Crossing Place' Outreach Boxes that support our Social History of Albury Permanent Exhibition and the Bonegilla Collection. This/these will be available for loan around seniors week and we forsee that nursing homes, schools nad other community based groups will be our primary audience. This is a very exciting and satisfying project and any insights from others are always welcome. Since I have also learned quite alot in this exploration, I am happy to field any questions from others thinking or doing something similar.
Thanks

Hi Helen
In the last few years our age care audience has increased and I'm interested in providing appropriate material. Currently they are borrowing our standard school boxes, but I feel some of the content is not useful. Did you start from the scratch or adapt existing material?
Thanks

Hi Karen,
The Crossing Place Box has been started from scratch using information that I have garnered through working with the War Memorial Boxes and through my mentorship with the Immigration Museum in Victoria. I am currently over-hauling our Explorer Boxes as well but these are primarily designed for schools and are linked to the curriculum. I hope to produce a Bonegilla Box later in the year ( if time allows ) and some of this will be duplicated from the Crossing Place Box. The idea being that the Social History Box/es will appeal to an adult/community group audience with schools interested in them from a History/people and community angle. The guides will tend to be more towards discussion questions rather than curriculum and the info. provided will be relating to individual experience in order to encourage people's participation and social sharing rather than text based activities. Does this answer your question? If not, let me know.

Yes - it sounds great. I can't start from scratch but it inspires me to look at a few of our boxes that could be adapted to suit this audience. I have recently reduced the number of boxes available on a couple of topics and can use these spare boxes and adapt the content. I may be in touch to get some advice.
Thanks
