Yes Ann, we almost have 50, but there are still a few places.

I got this email from Queensland Art Gallery about new programs for 'my gen!' Have a look- I think it is a very interesting way to target seniors without age getting a mention! www.qag.qld.gov.au/my_gen

Hi all,

I've just read through all these comments - a first for me - and it's good to see so many familiar faces. I feel compelled to post a comment because I don't want to be perceived as a passive or, 'heaven forbid', a lurker!!!

So here goes - Are others aware, as I am, that there's an emerging trend in cultural institutions to change the names of community education units to learning services? As an ex-teacher I'm well aware of student-centred learning and am an advocate of shared social learning experiences but it saddens me that the word education is becoming politically incorrect. What do others think of this?

It's good to reach a stage in this social communication process when I can actually communicate .. have tried before without success.
It's good about the Canberra activity .. as an old NSWer I recall that it used to be said that the best place to be in NSW was Queanbeyan .. SIG wise that has been the case .. and still is!
In response to Janelle can I suggest education has had its day .. let's get people learning lifelong/lifewide 24/7!
My question is how can the SIG be of help to those in the smaller volunteer managed institutions??

Hi Barrie,

Good questions there... what do smaller volunteer managed museums want from the SIG?

Let's compile a list of requests and see how we could go about meeting those needs.

In my limited experience suggests that they need to be convinced that the info they gain from the questions can be useful information, planning ets - that has not been established with them. In terms of the questions they need be be simple and limited in number and the data easily collected to be used. Perhaps a way to start is to make list and get those in the smaller museums to ask themselves what they would choose?? Over to the experienced people!

Barrie,

I'll move this conversation up to the forum section where responses can be added to the specific topic.
