what will the museum of the future be like?
Reducing waste and energy consumption are a good place to start as museums begin to grapple with the challenges of sustainability. But the potential of museums and other cultural organizations to help foster 'a culture of sustainability' is huge! For those who have been wondering how best to plan to have impacts on communities, beyond making corporate operations more efficient, then it is important to build sustainability into strategic planning.
For those museum folks who live in the Great Lakes region of North America, you might want to consider attending the upcoming course called "Building the Sustainability Pyramid". This is a two-day course, offered in Toronto, September 6-7, and will provide effective tools for doing just this. Participants will learn how to identify trends in the cultural sphere, create indicators that can help chart these trends, integrate systems thinking into planning (including how to identify leverage points for changing trends), generating innovations and strategizing how best to implement the innovations.
