Museum 3

what will the museum of the future be like?

I'm working on a curriculum idea that would have visitors or school groups podcast about local or global issues in response to the theme of an exhibit. Does anyone have any experience with this or tips to offer?

Hi Mandy, I have been developing new curriculum projects with museums connected to exhibitions over the past few years which has been documented on video for the participants in the projects. As an extension of this process I am about to collaborate with a school teacher who is keen to have students create a wiki space including podcasts related to their museum experience. The flagged idea is for an open wiki space to be set up for all students who participate in this ongoing program over time. Child protection and permission protocols have to be considered as part of this dialogue with all involved in school groups. I think it is the next step in creating curriculum outcomes that will encourage meaningful participation and individual engagement. Will keep you in the process loop.
Hi Sherryl,
I would love to hear more about this. Will you email me at mbaughman at thetech dot org
Hi Mandy,

We're also keen to explore this at the Auckland Museum, starting with the big kids first! We're about to launch a podcast project with tertiary students studying Maori media at a local university. They'll research a taonga (treasure) in the Museum's collection that's specific to their tribal region. Creating a video podcast will be the key research output. With the appropriate tribal permissions, we hope to make these available from iTunes U, as well as the Museum's own website.

All going well, we'd like to establish our own digital suite for younger students to make their own podcasts as part of a Museum visit. We'll see how this project goes first.
I am responsible for podcasting at the National Gallery in London. Pls feel free to contact me for a chat

Hi

have you seen RadioWaves? podcasting, videos and blogs site for 5-19yr olds.

Well worth a look around... http://www.radiowaves.co.uk/

It's got some really interesting museum-related content that came out of the 'Their Past Your Future' project on a channel called TPYF - http://www.radiowaves.co.uk/n/TPYF

Hi Mandy-
Looks like you've already gotten some great responses. I'd also recommend joining and posting your question to the Museum Ed discussion list- they are a very active listserv for museum educators! You can subscribe at
