what will the museum of the future be like?

Enhancing Objects through Digital Media in Exhibitions

I am interested in novel ways in which museums or technology developers work towards enhancing visitors' experience of authentic objects on the exhibition-floor. In the past, museums deployed labels, then touch-screen information kiosks and PDAs/nomadic systems, more recently they have turned to the utilise visitors' mobile phones and such like. There also has been a long-standing interest in deploying robots in galleries.

Does anyone know of any new developments or experiments that are being undertaken in the UK or elsewhere?

Hi Dirk
Really interesting subject matter I think. I'm currently doing some research for an MA course into the application of augmented reality technologies in the physical museum space. I think that this is a really exciting development that could really bring exhibitions to life by allowing curators to overlay a digital information layer onto the physical space.
