Museum 3

what will the museum of the future be like?

Contact at the Brooklyn Museum for someone involved with social media initiatives

Hi, I'm trying to get someone from the Brooklyn Museum to record a short video/piece to camera to be played at the start of an event I am organising in London on social media www.socialmediaexchange.org.uk - I understand that this museum in particular has really been leading the way in terms of its social media useage and I wanted the video to inspire delegates who are going to be part of a one day social media training event.

Or perhaps there is another Museum, Gallery or Cultural Centre that I should be speaking to.

I know that there are lots of Museums in the UK doing it but I was specifically looking for an overseas example.

Let me know or do let me have a contact email address

Thanks

Jude

If you can't get in contact with the Brooklyn Museum you could try the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney for an Australian example.

I think people are pretty busy at the moment with the MW2009 in Indianapolis and MANZ2009 in New Zealand happening this week.
Thanks so much Amelia. I did email someone at the Powerhouse a while a go but didn't get a reply but that is a great idea. Thanks for the tips about all the conferences - that and Easter holidays too makes a big difference.

The Indianapolis Museum of Art is doing great things in creating video content and social media for their museum and has made a sort of museum video aggregator/social network with their new program Artbabble.

They also might be easier to get a hold of than the Brooklyn Museum, which seems to be in high demand right now.
Agree that the IMA are terrific. Also try Shelley Bernstein at the Brooklyn. Her mw2008 paper about their web 2.0 stuff is a good summary of their work to date. You can contact her via Twitter @brooklynmuseum - she's great at responding that way.

Good luck,
Try Jennifer Caleshu at the Bay Area Discovery Museum, just outside San Francisco. She is incredibly savvy when it comes to social media and using it to promote the museum. jcaleshu (at) badm.org.
You are all brilliant - these are great examples. I'll let you know what happens and if someone does record a video for the event I'll make sure I post it on the site.
Have a great weekend.
