Museum 3

what will the museum of the future be like?

On 5 July we launched the latest Museum140 project: Adopt-a-Museum. The idea for the project was the result of visiting just one too many fantastic museum that doesn’t get enough attention, coupled with the latest list of  ‘top museums in the world’ to circle the web, featuring the same usual suspects. Adopt-a-Museum aims to put the spotlight on those lesser known museums, that don’t necessarily display famous art or get millions of visitors every year, but that are just really good at what they do.

Each week, the Adopt-a-Museum blog will feature a new ‘adoption’, and you can participate by commenting on the relevant posts, or checking out the museum locations on the map. And if you end up visiting one of our adopted museums as a result of this project, we’d love to hear about it. Of course, you can also take part by adopting a museum yourself - just contact us at Museum140 and we’ll send you the short questionnaire to complete.

We'd love to know what think about the project. And if you’re tweeting about it, please use the hashtag #adoptamuseum. Thanks!

HI Jenni

This sounds great. It would be lovely if you could keep us updated on Museum3.

Good luck with it!

Cheers

Thanks Angelina. Here's an update on the project so far:

So far we've featured three museums on Adopt-a-Museum:

Gladtstone at Biggar Museum Trust, Scotland (http://adopt.museum140.com/2011/07/05/gladstone-court-biggar-museum...)

The Museum of Power, England (http://adopt.museum140.com/2011/07/12/the-museum-of-power/)

The Swiss Games Museum, Switzerland (http://adopt.museum140.com/2011/07/19/swiss-games-museum/)

We currently have five more 'adoptions' in the pipeline: 3 from England, 1 from Germany and 1 from Iceland.

We're still looking for new submissions, especially in countries we've not featured yet, including outside of Europe. At the moment we're featuring one museum per week, but if we get a higher volume of submissions we'll increase that to at least two per week. Our aim is to try and feature at least 50 museums, but if we can make it too 100 that would be amazing. So, if you know a museum that you think deserves a moment in the spotlight, what are you waiting for? Adopt-a-Museum!

Hi Jenni

Ta for the update. I do hope some of our members will get involved.

The project looks great.

I've just sent a message about Museum in Darlowo, Poland.
