links to a summary of a Canadian study that suggests art gallery visitors have a stronger sense of social engagement than non-visitors. They do more donating, favours for their neighbours etc, etc. This reminds me of active discussions we were all having a few years back about galleries and museums as places for generating social capital. So I'm wondering what museums and galleries can do in the future to best support this engagement.
